Smile! Nine great reasons to buy from Midnight Oil Books.

Food Map Kirkcaldy Coming a distance to visit the bookshop? Below are a few ideas about great places to dine out in and around Kirkcaldy.

Firstly, two very local establishments. The Feuars Arms sits right at the end of Commercial Street beyond the old Co-op buildings. The bar is over 150 years old and one of the few traditional Scottish Victorian pubs to have retained most the original fittings. The original tiling is complimented by artefacts such as a Victorian clock manufactured here in Pathhead and 1920s art deco lamps and shades. An essential stop!

For dining out in the immediate vicinity, we would strongly recommend Matteo's round the corner on St Clair St. Call 01592-650009 to make a reservation.

Foremost among 'Kirkcaldy' restaurants is the award-winning Old Rectory, now run by the former proprietors of Bartons. Advance booking is essential.

La Gondola and the Waterfront Restaurant are easily accessible from the shop, being situated opposite the harbour, and both represent really good value for money.

The north and south ends of the High Streets are packed with bars, cafes and restaurants, but two of the finest are Maxin's, and the Indian Restaurant, Amritsar.

Cafe Continental just off the High Street is well worth a visit during the day when it's a little quieter.

And finally, for Fish and Chips, you will find the legendary Valente's of Overton Road hard to beat. Be prepared to wait for half an hour or more on Fridays and Saturdays though.
