The Pathhead Review welcomes speculative articles on topics of interest to a literate and scientifically-knowledgeable lay readership. Articles need not pertain directly to Fife or have a direct Fife connection, but those that are will be given special consideration. In no way however should a Fife connection be levered in.
Scientific papers are particularly welcome as, although they constitute the minority of submitted papers, the Review is split roughly fifty-fifty between scientific and humanities content. Crossover, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary papers will in no wise be discriminated against.
We are at present particularly interested in procuring articles on the following subjects: legal history; the history of ideas; the history of astronomy; metallurgy; scientific methodologies; anti-psychiatry; the philosophy of artificial intelligence; mereology; chaos theory; mathematical logic; functional analysis; geometry; stochastic process; astrobiology; pharmacology; supermolecular chemistry; acoustics; quantum mechanics; plasmas; nanotechnology; cryptography; freemasonry; Oriental Orthodoxy; industrial relations; field sports; rail transport; and, neuropsychology.
The Pathhead Review is a peer-reviewed journal and reviewers will be found for most topics.
Word length
Pathhead Review welcomes submissions in three seperate formats. At the front of the journal, we lead with a number of short, topical, almost journalistic pieces. We typically use this section to offer a platform to local scholars, historians, thinkers and intellectuals. These 'soapbox' pieces must not be more than 2000 words in length.
In the second instance, there is our featured article. Relevant illustrations thereunto would typically lead on the front cover. While, in the main, the Editorial Board will approach scholars in order to procure a featured article, unsolicited submissions will be given due consideration. The featured article should be in the region of 13,000-17,000 words in length.
The final part of the Review is comprised of standard academic and scholarly articles of not more than 8000 words.
Style Guides
All articles should be written in 'Commonwealth English', or where applicable, Scots. For general article-writing conventions, please refer to the MHRA Style Guide.
For scientific articles, please ensure adherence with the most recent edition of the Council of Science Editors' 'Scientific Style and Format'.
Format
Submit articles in .doc or .odt format. Please ensure that all images and diagrams are sharp and are saved at a resolution of 300px/in.
For clarification on any of the above, please contact the editor at: The Editor, Pathhead Review, Ravenscraig Press, 120 Commercial Street, Kirkcaldy, Fife, KY1 2NX, or by e-mailing tfhubbard[at]yahoo[dit]co[dit]uk.
